Meng celebrates Filipino American History Month at event on Capitol Hill

U.S. Rep. Grace Meng (D-NY), Vice Chair of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC), spoke last night at a congressional reception honoring the cultural, economic, and historical contributions of the Filipino American community.

At the event on Capitol Hill, Meng joined Congressmen T.J. Cox (D-CA) and Bobby Scott (D-VA) who are both Filipino Americans.

"Every October, we celebrate the extraordinary legacy of Filipino Americans in our nation," said Meng. "Today, there are over 4 million Filipino Americans in our country and I am proud that over 55 percent of Filipino New Yorkers (in New York City) live in Queens. From Larry Itliong who was one of the quintessential labor leaders in our nation, and one of the leading voices in the farmworker labor movement, to the Filipino veterans who served so courageously during World War II, our nation owes so much to their sacrifices and contributions. I hope we also take this time to renew the urgency to reunite the Filipino World War II veterans with their families. As we mark Filipino American History Month, I urge all Americans to join me in saluting the tremendous accomplishments that Filipino Americans have made to our nation."
