Arizona senior Senator Kyrsten Sinema cosponsored the Renewable Energy Extension Act, legislation that extends the solar energy Investment Tax Credit by five years, saving Arizona homeowners money and fueling jobs in the state's fast-growing solar industry.

"Extending solar energy tax credits saves Arizona families money while creating jobs and growing Arizona's leadership in the solar industry," said Sinema.

"Nearly 1,000 solar companies, big and small, are supporting an ITC extension because it continues to create hundreds of thousands of jobs, is driving innovation, and expanding solar access for Americans," said Alex McDonough, VP for Public Policy of Sunrun.  "From Phoenix to Prescott to Scottsdale, the Grand Canyon state is rich in sunlight. Senator Sinema is a clean energy leader and her support for extending the Investment Tax Credit will help put more Arizonans to work installing solar, while fueling innovation of solar and batteries."

The solar energy Investment Tax Credit allows Arizonans to receive a tax credit for up to 30 percent of the cost of the purchase and installation of solar systems.

Since the solar ITC was created, solar energy use increased by 10,000% and sparked more than $140 million in private investment. As third in the nation for solar deployment, Arizona has 450 solar manufacturing and installation companies that provide more than 7,500 solar jobs across the state.

Sinema's legislation is part of her commitment to promote market-based solutions to increase domestic energy production and create good paying jobs.
