Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Earl L. "Buddy" Carter (R-Ga.) today announced a federal grant of $200,000.00 for Park Place Outreach, Inc. in Savannah, Ga. The grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services will be used to fund their 24 hour emergency shelter for children.

"Homelessness is a serious concern in our community that we must address," said Carter. "I've visited Park Place Outreach and I have seen the important work they are doing to take care of homeless youth. I'm very glad the federal government is providing this critical funding to support the services they provide for these children in our community."

"Park Place Outreach Youth Emergency Services has long partnered with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to provide emergency shelter services to runaway and homeless youth ages 11-17," said Park Place Executive Director Julie Wade. "With the renewal of this 3-year, $200,000 grant, Park Place can continue to provide safe and stable housing; hot, healthy meals, trauma informed care, counseling, parenting support, tutoring, and enrichment opportunities to our teens in need. Youth homeless continues to be a growing problem in our community, with over 1000 students in the Savannah Chatham County public school system experiencing homelessness last year."

The grant is part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Service's Basic Centers Program.
