In honor and remembrance of U.S. Representative Elijah Cummings and in accordance with an order issued by the President, Governor Tim Walz has ordered all United States flags and Minnesota flags to be flown at half-staff at all state and federal buildings in the State of Minnesota beginning immediately until sunset on Friday, October 18, 2019. Representative Cummings passed away early Thursday morning from longstanding health complications.

"I am deeply saddened by the loss of Representative Elijah Cummings, and I send my sincere sympathies to his family and loved ones during this difficult time," said Governor Walz. "He was not only a friend, but a mentor to me throughout my time in Congress. Representative Cummings was one of those people who radiated kindness to everyone around him. He was tirelessly dedicated to serving his community in Baltimore and advocating for civil rights, and his presence will be sorely missed in the halls of the Capitol."

Representative Cummings represented the people of Baltimore in Maryland's Seventh Congressional District since 1996.
