Max Rose, Oddo, Lanza, Savino, and Cusick Announce Port Authority Rescinding Proposed Cuts to Resident Discounts

Congressman Max Rose, Borough President James Oddo, State Senator Diane Savino, State Senator Andrew Lanza, and Assemblyman Michael Cusick issued the following statement on the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) rescinding their proposal to eviscerate the resident discount for Staten Islanders and egregiously hike tolls beyond rates of inflation:

"When the Port Authority first proposed eviscerating the three-trip discount, we made it very clear that we would not tolerate such a blatant attempt to target our constituents. We are happy to announce today that the Port Authority is maintaining the current Staten Island Bridge Discount. This was by no means an easy fight, but by working together in a bipartisan fashion we were able to overcome the odds and get the job done. We also want to thank Governor Cuomo for listening to our concerns and acting to help us preserve the discount our constituents deserve."

The group of lawmakers have led the bipartisan charge against the PANYNY's proposed toll hikes and cuts to the resident discounts. Immediately following the proposal being announced, Rose led a bipartisan letter with Borough President James Oddo to the Governors of New York and New Jersey urging them to use their considerable influence to halt the plan before it gains serious consideration. Following that action, Rose, Oddo, Lanza, Savino and Cusick met with PANYNJ leadership to press their case against the egregious proposal.
