Velázquez on Electioneering Activity by Oversight Board Chairman

Statement

Issues: Elections

Rep. Nydia M. Velázquez (D-NY) issued the following statement after the Chairman of the Federal Oversight Management Board, José Carrión, released a "Latinos for Trump" electioneering video on social media:

"Congress created the Oversight Board through PROMESA specifically to remove difficult financial decisions from the political arena. Mr. Carrión's flagrant electioneering on behalf of Donald Trump risks undermining the Board's credibility, further impeding its ability to perform its duties. The timing of this video is particularly disturbing as the Board is currently seeking Court approval for its Plan of Adjustment. I continue to have serious concerns about that Plan and austerity measures on which it is predicated, but for the Chairman of the Board to engage in election activity will only make the situation worse, not better. All members of the Board should refrain from this type of political activity and instead focus on helping Puerto Rico recover economically."
