Lipinski Statement on Turkey's Attacks in Syria

Congressman Dan Lipinski (IL-3) released the following statement today:

"President Trump's unilateral decision to withdraw troops from northern Syria is shortsighted and fraught with peril. This action opens up the potential for an ISIS resurgence, endangering our allies in the region as well as U.S. national security. The president's decision could also enable violent acts of religious persecution. As co-chair of the International Religious Freedom Caucus, I remain deeply concerned about the communities in northern Syria we are leaving behind, particularly our Kurdish allies and Christian and Yazidi minorities. President Trump has indicated that he would pursue economic sanctions if Turkey took any actions considered "off limits." As reports emerge about Turkey's military campaign, we must keep a close eye and take swift action if minority religious groups are targeted and innocent lives are lost. Turkey needs to know the world is watching."
