Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler (MO-4) responded to the decision by Speaker Nancy Pelosi to establish a select committee to assess the impeachment of President Donald Trump.

"This is just another attempt for the Democratic Party to tear down President Trump ahead of the 2020 election. The Democrats failed to get an indictment after wasting years and over $25 million of taxpayer dollars on the Mueller Report, so now they are turning to a costly and partisan impeachment process," Hartzler said. "Since November 2016, Democrats have done everything at their disposal to overturn the will of the American people."

"As we've seen with the constant political attacks against President Trump since his time in the White House, the only thing clear about the whistleblower complaint at this point is this: we should know all the facts before any judgements can be made," Hartzler said.

"The fact that Speaker Pelosi has chosen to move forward with the impeachment process despite not seeing the transcripts between President Trump and the Ukrainian government shows the real intent of these proceedings," Hartzler said. "This is selective outrage targeted towards the President and deflects from former Vice President Joe Biden's egregious involvement in Ukrainian affairs during the previous administration."

"Former Vice President Biden admitted in 2018 in front of the Council on Foreign Relations that he withheld $1 billion in monies while the Ukrainian leader fired Ukraine's top prosecutor, Viktor Shokin. Where is the call to investigate this blatant coercion? Democrats need to pursue an investigation of this known impropriety while we await information on these unknown allegations against President Trump," Hartzler concluded.
