Congresswoman Miller Announces Designation of Fayette County as High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area

Statement

Date: Sept. 10, 2019
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Drugs

Congresswoman Carol Miller (WV-3) announced today that Fayette County has been designated as a High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) by the Office of National Drug Control Policy.

Congresswoman Miller said "The HIDTA designation for Fayette County is an important step in combating the opioid epidemic. West Virginia is ground-zero for this tragic epidemic and has affected us all in heart-breaking ways. I am committed to continuing to find solutions to keep our community safe."

"The proven success of our HIDTA program is a direct result of the hard work of those on the frontlines of this fight, and the invaluable partnerships they've formed with law enforcement groups across the Nation. From day one, the Trump Administration has strongly supported the men and women dedicated to stopping deadly drugs from flowing into our communities, and we're renewing that commitment once again today. By expanding our HIDTA program to these critical areas, we are providing more resources to help achieve our mission of keeping more of our family members, friends, and neighbors safe." ONDCP Director Jim Carroll said.

HIDTA Counties receive extra funding to help law enforcement fight the drugs pouring into our community. In addition to Fayette County, Cabell, Wayne, Mercer, Raleigh, Logan, Mingo, Wyoming, Lincoln, and Boone Counties are part of the HIDTA Program.
