Boyle Statement on Call Between President Trump and President Zelensky of Ukraine

Date: Sept. 25, 2019

Congressman Brendan F. Boyle (PA-02) released the following statement on the release of the memorandum ("not a verbatim transcript") of President Trump's telephone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

"The memorandum summary of the call released by the White House is devastating. It is clear that President Trump exercised his power as President of the United States for his own political gain at the expense of our national security. This is simply unacceptable and shocking. The President not only asked President Zelensky for a "favor" to criminally investigate former Vice President Biden's son, but also suggested him to work together with his personal lawyer, Rudy Giluliani, and Attorney General William Barr. The American people deserve to know the full truth--not a summary or a redacted version put forth by the Trump Administration. With complete transparency, President Trump must be held accountable for not upholding his constitutional responsibility and undermining our democracy.

Above all, I want to thank the brave whistleblower for raising this complaint despite the grave risks associated with it. It is only appropriate to fully protect the whistleblower from any retaliation by the Administration."
