Rep. Meadows introduces "Duplication Scoring Act"

Statement

Today, Congressman Mark Meadows (NC-11) introduced the Duplication Scoring Act to eliminate wasteful spending of taxpayer dollars.

The bill is a companion to S.2183, introduced by U.S. Senator Rand Paul (R-KY), which requires the Government Accountability Office (GAO) to review legislation that has been reported by any Congressional committee to determine if that legislation would duplicate or overlap with existing federal programs, offices, and initiatives. This information, outlined in the GAO's annual reports for Congress, would be posted on its website and shared with the Congressional Budget Office (CBO). The work done by the GAO in accordance with this bill will assist CBO and Congressional lawmakers to keep more accountability over federal spending.

Rep. Meadows released the following statement on the bill:

"Our government loses hundreds of billions of dollars every year to wasteful or low-priority spending, and eliminating this waste has been one of my top priorities throughout my time in Congress. There is no question we can find hundreds of billion dollars of waste in the government's budget because of unnecessary, duplicative, or overlapping programs. Having the Government Accountability Office review legislation will help expose the areas where Congress is creating duplicative or overlapping programs, helping get our spending and bloated government under control."
