Energy and Commerce Committee Republican Leader Greg Walden (R-OR) and Consumer Protection and Commerce Republican Leader Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) released the following statement after the Auto Alliance and Global Automakers detailed their voluntary commitment to add rear seat reminder systems -- to prevent children from dying in hot cars -- to new vehicles by Model Year 2025:

"Congress has been really clear: action is needed to protect kids from hot cars. We have made this point repeatedly -- publicly and privately, so we are encouraged to see industry leaders respond to our concern. By adding rear seat reminders to new vehicles, we will be addressing a major safety issue. We applaud this industry-led effort to improve safety and save lives. Of course, work remains to ensure we maximize the impact of this commitment, but we look forward to seeing this agreement implemented swiftly," said Walden and Rodgers.
