Letter to the Hon. Antonio Manuel de Oliveria Guterres - Sen. Rick Scott calls on U.N. to join U.S. in supporting Hurricane Dorian recovery in the Bahamas

Dear Mr. Guterres:

Today, I joined the U.S. Coast Guard on an aerial tour of Hurricane Dorian's impacts on the Bahamas, and I can tell you firsthand - we are just now beginning to get the full picture of the heartbreaking devastation. Entire communities were destroyed by this massive storm, leaving many families with nowhere to turn.

Throughout my time as Governor of Florida, my state faced multiple devastating hurricanes. It never gets easier. But what we've seen in Florida and across our nation is that in times of crisis, we come together. That is exactly what we're going to do to help our Bahamian brothers and sisters.

The United States has committed Coast Guard resources to support search and rescue operations in the Bahamas, and the U.S. Agency for International Development has deployed personnel to the Bahamas to assess damage and identify humanitarian needs and bring urgently-needed aid to affected families. I'm also working to re-direct U.S. foreign aid from our adversaries across the globe to the Bahamas and to remove the Peace Corps from our enemy, China, and use those resources instead to help the Bahamas.

It is my hope that every member of the United Nations will step up and join us as we do everything we can to support our friends in the Bahamas as they recover. The support of the international community means so much in this effort, and I look forward to working together to support the Bahamas in their time of need.
