Location: Bismark, ND

U.S. Senator Kevin Cramer (R-ND) delivered remarks today at the 23rd Annual Tribal Leaders Summit and Tradeshow for the United Tribes Technical College (UTTC).

"UTTC and all our Tribal Colleges play critical roles in tribal communities by offering an affordable, quality education. You are able not only to break cycles of generational poverty but also to help preserve Indian language and heritage," said Senator Cramer. "I want to praise you for your work and the significant contributions you make to our communities and our culture."

Cramer stressed the importance of relationships, not just between governments, but between people.

"As important as the government-to-government relationships you see sitting on this stage are, it is the servant-to-constituent relationship that matters the most. Because if you as individuals have personal relationships with your leaders, you have a greater influence over global- as well as local- issues," Senator Cramer continued. "Your peers in New York, California, and Texas don't get to sit in a room with their senators and governor and discuss important issues on a regular basis. That is a blessing for us and allows you to punch above your weight class."

UTTC2
The Senator supports the FUTURE Act which extends funding for Tribal Colleges such as UTTC. The Tribal College and the International Powwow are celebrating 50 years of post-secondary education and culture during this summit. Their theme this year is "Building on a Legacy of Success," and they anticipate an attendance of 700 people from tribal nations across the country.
