Today, Congressman G. K. Butterfield (NC-01) hosted an immigration forum joined by Congressmen David Price (NC-04) and Adriano Espaillat (NY-13) to discuss the impact of the Trump Administration's immigration policies on communities in the state and around the nation.
"Immigrant communities across the country have been under attack during the Trump Administration and Durham has often been on the front lines," said Congressman Butterfield. "I'm thankful for the meaningful discussion today and the participation of my two colleagues in the U. S. House of Representatives, Congressmen David Price and Adriano Espaillat, in addition to Durham community leaders and advocates. Durham is a welcoming and inclusive community and everyone who participated in this morning's discussion is committed to making sure it remains that way."
"President Trump's anti-immigrant agenda is sowing fear in North Carolina," said Congressman Price. "Today's roundtable with local elected officials and immigration advocates highlighted how indiscriminate raids and the targeting of jurisdictions which have terminated voluntary agreements with ICE are tearing apart families, undermining local law enforcement, and harming our communities. We must do everything we can to reverse these destructive policies."
"Immigration is one of the most pressing issues facing our nation today," said Congressman Espaillat. "I am delighted to join my House Democratic colleagues, Rep. Butterfield and Rep. Price, today in Durham, North Carolina, to discuss the critical impact immigration continues to have on communities and families in our respective states, around the nation, and the world."
During the forum, the Members heard firsthand from community leaders and advocates who shared stories and insight on several topics including recent ICE raids and the local impact of the Trump Administration's immigration policies on children and families.
