Governor Brown to Kick Off New School Year in Portland

Statement

Date: Aug. 27, 2019
Location: Portland, OR
Issues: Education

Governor Kate Brown will welcome students on their first day of school, and ceremonially sign the Student Success Act, at Jefferson High School on Wednesday, August 28. She will also visit Albina Head Start, an early education program serving young children and their families since 1965.

The Student Success Act provides a historic $2 billion in targeted investments in Oregon's early education and K-12 schools.

"Giving our children the opportunity to thrive is at the core of the Student Success Act," said Governor Brown. "I want to make sure that every single student is empowered and able to overcome any challenge, and dream big for themselves and their community. These targeted investments will ensure that all our kids can graduate high school with a plan for their future."

Members of the media are welcome to attend. Those who plan to attend or need additional information should contact Natalie King at natalie.king@oregon.gov or 503-559-6644.
