Illinois Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi Responds To Vaping-Linked Death Of Illinois Man, The First In The Nation

"I am sickened to learn an Illinois resident passed away from a lung illness linked to vaping devices," said Illinois Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi. "This summer alone, there have been an alarming 22 cases of vaping-related respiratory illnesses in the state of Illinois, and nearly 200 nationwide, and the vast majority of patients were adolescents or young adults. These mysterious illnesses continue to plague the health and safety of our communities while e-cigarette use remains rampant amongst our youth, after spiking by a whopping 78% last year."

"My heart goes out to the family and friends impacted by this devastating news, and my resolve to reduce e-cigarette use in Illinois and across the country has only strengthened," he continued. "Simply put, we need answers. We need to know the exact medical cause of this individual's death, and we must know why more Illinois residents are finding themselves in hospitals after vaping. I will continue to investigate the linkage between skyrocketing e-cigarette use and vaping-related illnesses, and I will do everything in my power to get dangerous consumer products off the shelves and out of the hands of America's kids."

As Chairman of the Oversight Subcommittee on Economic and Consumer Policy, Congressman Krishnamoorthi is leading a Congressional investigation into the national vaping epidemic and the dangers it poses. Last month, the subcommittee held hearings with doctors, public health advocates, and representatives of the nation's largest vaping company.
