Dear Friend,
Our nation's military members do not serve alone. Gold Star families - the families of service members who lost their lives in war or due to a disability sustained in war - bear the heavy loss of their loved ones' sacrifice to ensure every American's freedom and safety.
No Gold Star family should ever have to suffer financially after such a tremendous loss. Yet, in speaking with Gold Star families from across my district, I have repeatedly heard of the financial hardship experienced after the loss of their loved one.
I joined Gold Star families at a Gold Star Mothers luncheon in Waterbury to honor brave service members lost and discuss assistance from Veterans Affairs.
That is why I introduced a bipartisan piece of legislation, the Dependency and Indemnity Compensation Improvement Act (H.R. 3221), which would raise the benefit these spouses and children receive from the Department of Veterans Affairs by $300 a month.
It is our duty to ensure that these families receive the full benefits they are owed. I am proud to fight for this increase in benefits to support our nation's bravest families.
