Medicaid Is Focus for Member Day

Press Release

Marianas Medicaid was the focus of my testimony for the Energy and Commerce Committee Member Day. I thanked Committee Chairman Frank Pallone (D-New Jersey) for including a 6-year, $360 million package for the Marianas in the Committee-approved REACH Act last week. But I also reminded the Committee that six years would go quickly and that a permanent fix for Medicaid in the Marianas and all the U.S. insular areas remained our goal.

I also asked the Committee to remember what happened with the insular areas' Obamacare Medicaid money. The Marianas used all its $109 million over eight years. Some places failed to spend theirs. I urged the Committee to allow for a mid-course correction in REACH Act funding, if the need arises. The House is expected to take up the REACH--Reauthorizing and Extending America's Community Health--Act, when we return in September.
