Congressman Malinowski's Resolution Condemning President Trump's Racist Comments Directed at Members of Congress Passes House with Bipartisan Support

Today the House passed with bipartisan support Congressman Malinowski's Resolution Condemning President Trump's Racist Comments Directed at Members of Congress.

The President's words have legitimized fear and hatred of new Americans and people of color. At a time when hate crimes, including anti-Semitic attacks and incidents of domestic terrorism, are on the rise, they also increase the risk of violence. In contrast, many of the "whereas" clauses of the resolution are taken from President Ronald Reagan's final speech as president, in which he extolled the benefits of immigration to the United States.

The bill had over 180 co-sponsors including Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler, Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Eliot Engel, Appropriations Committee Chairwoman Nita Lowey, Oversight and Reform Committee Chairman Elijah Cummings, and Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration and Citizenship Chairwoman Zoe Lofgren.

"In the final analysis, this resolution is not really about the president," said Congressman Malinowski. "We know who he is -- the only remaining question is who are we? Tonight, Congress declared that we are better than this."
