Senator David Perdue Visits Dublin VA Hospital

Statement

U.S. Senator David Perdue (R-GA), a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, toured the Carl Vinson VA Medical Center in Dublin, Georgia. The Senator visited with veterans and met with the center's new director, David Whitmer.

"The women and men who have worn the uniform represent the very best of our nation. As Americans, we have a responsibility to uphold the commitments we made to our veterans, and it's a job I take very seriously," said Senator Perdue. "Director Whitmer and I discussed his vision for the Dublin VA and how we can work together to ensure veterans receive the care they deserve. Last year, I helped establish a pilot program to provide innovative treatment options to veterans with neurological injuries. The VA just completed this study, and the therapy has proven to ease chronic PTSD symptoms. We hope to bring this treatment to the Dublin VA to assist middle Georgia veterans who are experiencing PTSD."

"I enjoyed providing a tour to Senator Perdue of our community living center and domiciliary for him to see how we've modernized our facilities to provide veterans of middle Georgia the best healthcare they've earned through their service to our country," said Director David Whitmer.

Senator Perdue's No Hero Left Untreated Act established a pilot program at two VA medical centers and enrolled 50 veterans in Magnetic EEG/ECG-Guided Resonance Therapy (MeRT). This is an individualized non-pharmaceutical, non-invasive procedure that applies magnetic stimulation to help facilitate restoration of proper brain function in those who have suffered neurological injuries. The bill became law on December 21, 2018.
