Today, Rep. Phil Roe, M.D. (R-Tenn.) released the following statement after voting in favor of the Senate amendment to H.R. 3401, the Emergency Supplemental Appropriations for Humanitarian Assistance and Security at the Southern Border Act:
"I'm proud we were finally able to come together and pass this critically-needed bill. I applaud President Trump for his work to address this crisis. Although this bill does not contain the necessary funding to construct a physical barrier, it provides our government agencies with the resources they need to address the overwhelming number of migrants coming to our southern border. I believe this is a good step to ending this humanitarian crisis, and today was proof that we need to -- and can -- work together to get it done."
Note: This bill fulfills the President's request and will provide a total of $4.59 billion to address the humanitarian crisis. Specifically, it gives Department of Health and Human Services $2.88 billion to provide appropriate shelter and care for children in custody and $1.1 billion for Customs and Border Protection to handle the influx of immigrants at our border.
