Congressman Sires' Statement on Republican Attempts to Dismantle the Affordable Care Act

Statement

Date: July 9, 2019
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Albio Sires released the following statement in response to the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals beginning oral arguments today in the case Texas v. United States:

"These persistent attempts to dismantle health care coverage and protections for millions of Americans is an attack on our constituents and our communities. According to a 2017 analysis done by the Center for American Progress, in the 8th District of New Jersey, an estimated 339,700 residents have pre-existing conditions and are at risk of being denied, dropped, or charged more for coverage if this lawsuit succeeds in invalidating the Affordable Care Act. Hundreds of thousands more in New Jersey could lose coverage altogether. My Democratic colleagues and I are working tirelessly to lower health care costs, address rising prescription drug prices, and strengthen health care protections. My job in Congress is to work in the best interest of my constituents, and I will continue to fight for measures that improve health care accessibility and affordability for my constituents, New Jerseyans, and all Americans."
