Congresswoman Beatty Slams Trump Administration's Latest Attack on Affordable Care Act

Today, as the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals hears oral arguments in the Republican-led, White House-backed lawsuit, Texas v. U.S., U.S. Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH-03) blasted Republicans' latest efforts to strike down protections for people with pre-existing conditions as well as all the benefits and protections provided by the Affordable Care Act.

"Republicans and the White House are recklessly determined to destroy the high-quality, affordable healthcare coverage many of my constituents and their families rely on," Beatty said. "That is why I was proud to vote on the first day of the new Democratic majority in the 116th Congress to defend the Affordable Care Act from this disastrous Republican lawsuit, and later to help pass sweeping legislation guaranteeing that no man, woman, or child has to fear losing their healthcare coverage because of a pre-existing condition." Beatty continued, "The fight to defend healthcare is far from over, and my Democratic colleagues and I will continue working tirelessly to lower healthcare and prescription drug prices, as well as ensure that healthcare remains a right, not a privilege, "For the People.'"

If the Trump Administration is successful, the health and financial well-being of Ohio families will be in serious jeopardy. According to the Urban Institute:

4,830,900 Ohioans with pre-existing conditions would lose vital protections;
741,000 Ohioans would lose healthcare coverage, resulting in a 105 percent increase in the state uninsured rate;
214,388 Ohio seniors could have to pay more for their prescription drugs;
Ohioans over the age of 50 could face a $3,329 "age tax;" and
81,000 young Ohio adults young could lose the ability to remain on their parents' health insurance.
