SHIMKUS MOURNS PASSING OF ROSA PARKS

Washington, DC…..Congressman John Shimkus (R, Illinois-19) issued the following statement on the death of Rosa Parks:

"Rosa Parks was a woman of strength, conviction, and morality. Her action on December 1, 1955, to defy the law made her a leading figure in our nation's civil rights history.

"I was privileged to meet Ms. Parks here in Washington after becoming a Congressman. At that time, she was still exemplifying strength, pride, and humility.

"Rosa Parks inspired many. She will not be forgotten."

Shimkus cosponsored the legislation that awarded Parks the Congressional Gold Medal - the highest civilian award our nation can bestow.
