The U.S. House of Representatives voted today to pass Rep. Joe Cunningham's amendment to H.R. 3055, the Military Construction Appropriations Act, that prohibits funds from being used for a base realignment and closure (BRAC).

The Lowcountry is home to military installations like Joint Base Charleston, Parris Island, Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort, and Beaufort Naval Hospital. Combined, these important national security assets are estimated to account for nearly $13 billion in economic impact annually and support 78,000 jobs.

"Supporting our Lowcountry military installations and our national defense is one of my top priorities in Congress," said Rep. Joe Cunningham. "Our brave men and women in uniform deserve our full support. This bipartisan amendment ensures they have the tools and resources to keep us safe. I'm proud my colleagues joined me in ensuring that military communities in the Lowcountry and across the nation are spared the effects of another reckless BRAC round."
