Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Foreign Affairs

Following reports of continued violence in Sudan, Congresswoman Barbara Lee released the following statement:

"I am saddened and appalled by the continued attacks on peaceful protestors in Sudan. Reports indicate that over 100 people have been killed and that more than 784 people have been injured. Additionally, there are grave reports of sexual violence against protestors and that medical facilities have been targeted by security forces. This is unacceptable.

"I strongly condemn the violence and use of force against peaceful protestors in the country, and urge Sudanese authorities to hold those responsible for this unspeakable violence accountable. I urge the Transitional Military Council and Sudanese authorities to participate in peaceful dialogue and to pursue in good faith, negotiations to a civilian-led transitional authority."
