Huawei Continues to Prey on American Businesses

Statement

Date: June 3, 2019
Location: Washington, DC

Monday, Congressman Mike Conaway (TX-11) released the following statement as the Huawei v. CNEX Labs trial began in a federal court in Sherman, Texas:

"This is yet another example of a Chinese company, backed by the Chinese communist government, attacking American businesses in our own court system. Huawei has routinely abused its position of strength in China to prey on smaller, innovative companies, like CNEX Labs, who rely on research partnerships with universities to develop their proprietary technologies. Once the IP piques Huawei's interest, they first steal the technology, then sue to claim ownership.

"Chinese companies cannot be allowed to continue manipulating our laws to work in their favor- they know our laws and our legal system forwards and backwards, and will not hesitate to use that knowledge against American businesses to win at any cost. I recently reintroduced H.R. 702, the Stopping Foreign Business Sanctuary Act, to prevent companies like Huawei from gaining unfair advantages in our court system and the global economy. Huawei will continue to escalate this behavior without hesitation. It is up to us to change our laws to protect American businesses from predatory foreign companies."
