Sarbanes Statement on Passage of the Equality Act

Statement

Date: May 17, 2019
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman John Sarbanes (D-Md.) released the following statement today after voting for and passing H.R. 5, the Equality Act:

"Today, I proudly joined House Democrats in passing powerful civil rights legislation to protect all Americans from discrimination. No American citizen should be left out or locked out of employment opportunities, education, housing, credit, federal jury service or other public spaces because of their sexual orientation or gender identity. I applaud my colleague, Congressman David Cicilline of Rhode Island, for successfully leading this tremendous effort to expand equality in America."
