Rep. Phil Roe, M.D. (R-Tenn.) released the following statement after voting in favor of the Setting Every Community Up for Retirement Enhancement Act (SECURE) Act, a bipartisan achievement on retirement savings:
"Reports indicate that over 100 million working age Americans have nothing saved for retirement, which is why I am proud to support this critical legislation to address this issue on a bipartisan basis. The SECURE Act will help hardworking individuals and families save more and begin preparing for retirement earlier. This legislation will make it easier for our small businesses to set up retirement plans for their employees, while giving them more flexibility to modify plans that best serve their employees. It will also give families the ability to save longer and to make penalty-free withdrawals from their retirement accounts for the birth or adoption of a child. Most importantly this legislation will lower taxes for families who have lost a family member while serving our nation. I am proud to support this bill to help our retirement system adapt to the modern day workforce and families."
Note: Included in the SECURE Act is the consolidated Form 5500 bill introduced by Reps. Linda Sánchez and Phil Roe on February 7, 2019. This bipartisan legislation will make it easier and less costly for small businesses to provide retirement plans for their workers by alleviating duplicative reporting requirements for plan administrators.
