PROCLAMATION

by the
Governor of the State of California

On Veterans Day, we honor the men and women throughout our nation's history who stood between us and our enemies, and gave their lives for their country. Ronald Reagan once said, "no weaponry arsenal in the world is as formidable as the will and the moral courage of free men and women."

It was free men and women like our veterans who carried the burden of liberty to provide us with the blessings of democracy. Our honored veterans gave us freedom over oppression, justice over tyranny, and the right to live as one people and as individuals. Our country is a beacon of opportunity and hope for its citizens and people around the world, because of the great Americans in uniform who protect our liberty and defend the American dream. The men and women now serving in our Armed Forces follow in their valiant footsteps, representing the best that this nation has to offer, and assuming the legacy of our veterans as a symbol of duty.

The Golden State is proud to be home to 2.5 million veterans - more than any other state in the nation. It is our obligation to remember their commitment to service and recognize their importance to our past and to our future. On this day, we pause to remember their courage, commemorate their legacy and rededicate ourselves to protecting the greatest democracy that the world has ever seen and known.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER, Governor of the State of California, do hereby proclaim November 11, 2005, as "Veterans Day."
California Seal IN WITNESS WHEREOF I have here unto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of the State of California to be affixed this the twenty-eighth day of October 2005.

/s/ Arnold Schwarzenegger

Governor of California
