Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Anthony Brindisi (NY-22) announced a nearly $60,000 Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) grant for Broome County. The grant comes through FEMA's Homeland Security Grant program to improve Broome County's ability to use unmanned aerial vehicles for counter-terrorism and emergency response.

"We need to work together to keep our communities safe," Brindisi said. "When disaster strikes, whether it is environmental or man-made, our counties need to have every resource at their fingertips to respond. This grant will provide important training and equipment to the brave emergency workers in Broome County."

Brindisi's office collaborated with the county to cut through the federal bureaucracy to secure this grant.

"Thank you to Congressman Brindisi for assisting Broome County navigate the federal grant programs," said Broome County Emergency Services Director Michael Ponticello. "The equipment purchased by the Broome County Sheriff's Office and Office of Emergency Services will assist first responders throughout the county."

Last month, Brindisi urged his colleagues for additional equipment to combat the opioid crisis in Broome County.
