Crist Statement on Holocaust Remembrance Day

Press Release

U.S. Representative Charlie Crist (D-St. Petersburg) released the following statement in honor of Holocaust Remembrance Day.

"On Yom HaShoah, we stand in solemn unity in remembrance of the six million Jews killed less than a century ago, and the millions of others who have been targeted due simply to their faith and beliefs. This Holocaust Remembrance Day, we take pause to honor and memorialize those innocent men, women, and children who were killed at the hands of bigotry and hatred. Above all, we must never forget the actions of our past, no matter how painful they may be, and work to make certain these unforgivable acts are never a part of our future.

"Today and always, we stand in solidarity with the Jewish community across the world with steadfast commitment to fighting the forces of anti-Semitism and racism. We must honor this commitment in the halls of Congress and from sea to shining sea. Now more than ever, as we grapple with rising anti-Semitism in our own country, we take a moment to remember and pray for the victims of the Tree of Life and Chabad of Poway synagogues, and pray for strength and peace for their families and for all touched by these terrible acts of violence and hatred.

"We must continue to fight for equality, unity, understanding, and compassion. I carry the Jewish community in my heart today and every day, as we rededicate ourselves to a better, more peaceful tomorrow."
