Sinema Meets with Military Leaders, Discusses Opportunities for Arizona's Military Installations

Arizona senior Senator Kyrsten Sinema met this week with two of the nation's top military leaders. In separate meetings, Sinema met with the Vice Chief of Staff of the Army, General James McConville, and Navy Secretary Richard Spencer.

Sinema discussed military modernization needs across Arizona's military installations, and highlighted Fort Huachuca's unique training capabilities and the importance of its Unmanned Aerial Systems mission.

"I am working closely with military leaders to strengthen Arizona's role in our national defense and ensure that Arizona's military installations are well-resourced and well-equipped," said Sinema, a member of the Senate Veterans' Affairs Committee.

Sinema recently visited Fort Huachuca and received briefings on military intelligence, Unmanned Aerial Systems, and CBP Air Marine Operations. She also met with Sierra Vista leaders including members of the Fort Huachuca 50.

Sinema has consistently worked to support Arizona servicemembers and military veterans to ensure they receive the benefits they have earned. Sinema recently introduced the bipartisan Daniel Somers Network of Support Act--legislation that requires the Department of Defense to create networks of support for servicemembers.

Sinema also introduced and successfully passed bipartisan legislation that honors the more than 82,000 Americans who are listed as Prisoners of War or Missing in Action. The bipartisan legislation ensures that the POW/MIA Flag is displayed whenever the U.S. flag is displayed. Additionally, Sinema partnered with a bipartisan group of Senators in cosponsoring legislation that provides tax relief for Gold Star Families, which fixes a problem with the 2017 tax law that unfairly raised taxes on military survivor benefits.
