Rosa Parks will be Truly Missed

As the nation's capital finishes hosting more than 30,000 Americans who have paid tribute to civil rights pioneer Rosa Parks, Gov. Joe Manchin issued the following statement:

"Rosa Parks, the mother of the civil rights movement, will be truly missed. As one of only 30 Americans ever honored with a Capitol Rotunda viewing, Rosa Parks will be remembered not only for her courage on that December bus ride, but also for her unwavering commitment to human rights.

Mrs. Parks gave the struggle for civil rights a real face and a clear voice. As we honor her contributions to our society, let us continue her work - by fighting injustice and by empowering future generations to stand up for what they believe in.

On behalf of the State of West Virginia, our thoughts and prayers are with her family, friends and fellow citizens as we mourn the passing and honor the life of this extraordinary American."
