KAPTUR TO ATTEND ROSA PARKS FUNERAL SERVICE IN DETROIT
Nov 1, 2005

WASHINGTON, DC -- Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (OH-9) will attend the funeral service for Rosa Parks tomorrow, Wednesday, at 11:00 a.m. in the Greater Grace Temple in Detroit. Kaptur has released the following statement:

"Rosa Parks' act of measured civil defiance lit the conscience of a nation and helped usher in the modern civil rights era. As with the Statue of Liberty, a woman held the dreams of liberty aloft for our nation and world. Mrs. Parks' brave decision spoke out for justice as she maintained her composure and took her seat. It was this quiet act of protest that proved the power of one person. Rosa Parks truly symbolizes all that is vital about nonviolent protest. We honor her courage, her indomitable spirit and her strength.

"In honor of this remarkable woman, we are also reminded that we must root out injustice wherever it seeks to harbor. On behalf of our community and state, I extend deepest sympathy and abiding gratitude to Mrs. Parks' family and friends for her inspiring a new chapter in America's history in the tradition of Sojourner Truth."
