Chairwoman Roybal-Allard Statement on President Trump's DHS Policies and Leadership Changes

Statement

Date: April 8, 2019
Location: Washington, DC

House Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee Chairwoman Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA-40) issued this statement regarding President Trump, his Homeland Security policies, and his changes to DHS leadership:

"‪Donald Trump and Stephen Miller are creating massive gaps in our Homeland Security leadership. This weakens our national security, and our ability to maintain a strong and effective system to protect our country.

"Donald Trump and his DHS leadership have spent more than two years pushing cruel and hateful immigration policies. These include large-scale separation of immigrant families and the detention of pregnant women. Now, this president wants his administration to be harsher on immigrant women and children.

"CNN is reporting that Trump is demanding immigration policies that his own officials admit are simply unlawful. If true, we must not let that stand. The president is not a king. He must follow the law. As chairwoman of the House Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee, I will leave no stone unturned in fighting for lawful and ethical DHS policies."
