Chairwoman Roybal-Allard Statement on Homeland Security Leadership

Statement

Date: April 7, 2019
Location: Washington, DC

House Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee Chairwoman Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA-40) issued this statement following the resignation of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen, and President Trump's announcement that Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Kevin McAleenan will become acting secretary:

"‪Donald Trump keeps changing his DHS leadership, but sadly he refuses to change his inhumane immigration policies. He must reunite the migrant families he has torn apart, stop depriving immigrants of dignity and justice, and stop trying to spend billions on a border wall that will do nothing to address the humanitarian crisis at the border or the violence in the Northern Triangle that is behind this crisis.

"As chairwoman of DHS Appropriations, I will keep fighting to keep our country safe, fix our broken immigration system, and make sure all migrants are treated with respect. I hope the president, and his next DHS secretary, will help meet these crucial goals."
