Rep. Cisneros Statement on Cosponsoring the Protecting Pre-Existing Conditions & Making Health Care More Affordable Act

Statement

Date: March 27, 2019
Location: Washington, DC

Yesterday, Rep. Cisneros joined his colleagues in introducing new health care legislation that will lower health insurance premiums, strengthen protections for people with pre-existing conditions, and invest in outreach and enrollment. The Protecting Pre-Existing Conditions & Making Health Care Affordable Act was introduced the day after the administration asked a federal court to strike down not only the Affordable Care Act's protections for people with pre-existing conditions, but every other part of the health law.

"From day one, I have been fighting to defend the Affordable Care Act and protect people with pre-existing conditions and lower health costs for all Americans," said Rep. Cisneros. "With the Protecting Pre-Existing Conditions & Making Health Care Affordable Act, I joined my colleagues in taking another step forward to meet our promise to both strengthen and improve the ACA."

Rep. Cisneros cosponsored and supported several bills to protect the ACA. He joined the New Democrat Coalition (NDC) in sending a letter to Ways and Means Committee Chairman Neal, Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Pallone, and Education and Labor Committee Chairman Scott, urging the Committees to work to stabilize the individual health care marketplace, bring down health care costs for consumers, create a dedicated reinsurance program, and create state innovation grants. He is also a cosponsor of H.R. 1046, The Medicare Negotiation and Competitive Licensing Act, which would require Medicare to negotiate lower prescription drug prices with pharmaceutical companies and issue competitive licenses for generic alternatives.
