Crapo Votes Against Unworkable, Unrealistic Green New Deal

Statement

Idaho Senator Mike Crapo issued the following statement following his vote against the Green New Deal:

"Ensuring an environmentally-sustainable energy supply for future generations requires us to be smarter, more efficient and more innovative with our energy technology and usage. I voted against the Green New Deal today because it is unworkable, unrealistic and unaffordable. The 10-year plan would divert trillions of taxpayer dollars toward narrow and unachievable benchmarks while divesting the nation of many of its proven technologies that reduce carbon emissions. Furthermore, it would impose an unnecessary and enormous direct, personal cost to the average American. Idaho is a national leader in the use of clean, renewable power, and Idaho National Laboratory is leading the research and development of new, efficient nuclear reactors for wide-scale use that are critical to meeting carbon reduction goals. I am committed to advancing legislation that increases the use of reliable domestic resources and reasonably balances various environmental and economic considerations."
