Chairwoman Johnson Statement on The Passing of Chairman Ralph Hall

Statement

Date: March 7, 2019
Location: Washington, DC

Earlier today, former Texas Congressman and Science Committee Chairman Ralph Hall passed away.

Chairwoman Eddie Bernice Johnson's (D-TX) statement is below.

"Of all the people I've met and enjoyed serving with during my time in Washington, Ralph Hall was a true friend. My friendship with Congressman Hall dates back to our time serving together in the Texas State Legislature in the 1970s. From the first time we met to that last time I visited him at his home in Rockwall, he remained the same caring, thoughtful, humorous and hardworking man throughout. As a legislator, Congressman Hall was one of the most effective in our delegation and has a long record of achievement for his district. As a gentleman, he was always willing to extend a hand, including helping me find my way around the Capitol when I first arrived in Washington. It was an honor and a privilege to serve alongside him on the House Science Committee, where he served as both the Chair of the Committee and the Ranking Member. He always listened to my suggestions and concerns, and never failed to make time spent in the Committee a thoroughly enjoyable experience. No matter what party he belonged to, Congressman Hall believed in reaching out to find common ground in order to serve his constituents. That spirit of service is something I will dearly miss.

"My most sincere condolences are with the Hall family and the people of his district who have lost a giant of public service."
