Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Veterans

Today, Congresswoman Abby Finkenauer (IA-01) announced that she is co-sponsoring the Blue Water Navy Vietnam Veterans Act. The announcement comes on National Vietnam War Veterans Day.

The legislation expands benefits for the 90,000 Navy veterans who served in the coastal waters of Vietnam and are suffering from diseases they acquired due to toxic exposure. It also allows those affected the ability to receive expedited consideration for Veterans Affairs (VA) benefits if they suffer from diseases known to be linked to Agent Orange.

"More than 115,000 Iowans served courageously over the course of the Vietnam War," Congresswoman Finkenauer said. "I'm proud to have cosponsored the Blue Water Navy Vietnam Veterans Act to ensure that our veterans' sacrifice is recognized and that they can access the health care they need. Today, and every day, I encourage Iowans to join me in remembering and honoring the sacrifice of all those who have served--and those who continue to serve our nation."

Congresswoman Finkenauer's staff of caseworkers are able to assist veterans and their families in accessing the benefits they have earned, including education benefits, health care, and disability compensation, in addition to generally liaising with the VA. Her office is also able to assist with replacing lost medals earned or attaining medals earned.

Veterans are encouraged to call 319-364-2288 or visit http://finkenauer.house.gov for more information.
