Congressman Ralph Abraham, M.D., R-La., today voted to support President Trump's national emergency declaration.
Abraham has been a steadfast supporter of building the border wall. He previously voted against the resolution to overturn President Trump's emergency declaration.
President Trump vetoed the bill that would have negated his emergency declaration. The vote Tuesday was an attempt by House Democrats to override that veto. The override attempt failed to garner the required two-thirds support for passage.
Abraham spoke during debate against today's veto override vote.
"While [Democrats] played political games with our safety, more than 76,000 illegal immigrants tried to cross into our country in February alone. The United States has endured because of our belief in the rule of law. Turning a blind eye to the law and allowing these open borders sends the wrong message to Americans who live each day obeying our laws,"Abraham said during debate.
