Rep. Richmond Response to Special Counsel Robert Mueller Report Summary

Press Release

Date: March 27, 2019
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Cedric Richmond (D-LA) issued the following statement in response to the outcome of the Special Counsel Robert Mueller's report summarizing his investigation of Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. Presidential Election released to Attorney General William Barr:

"I take the summary of Special Counsel Robert Mueller's report at face value," said Rep. Richmond. "While there was no reported collusion, obstruction of justice by the President was not squarely ruled out. The Department of Justice decided not to move forward with it, and as the American people continue to demand transparency we must not lose sight of what lies ahead of us.

"The stakes have gotten higher now. As we enter the 2020 election cycle, it is now more important than ever that Democrats nominate a candidate who can win the presidency. The summary still did not deal with the President dividing our nation and inciting the likes of racists, sexists, as well as homophobic and Islamophobic extremists. Leadership of that caliber beyond 2020 will secure our downfall as a nation."
