House Democrats Take Action to Raise Wages, Make Health Care More Affordable For The People

MESSAGE FROM THE MAJORITY LEADER

This week, House Democrats continued to take action on our For the People agenda. We brought legislation to the Floor ahead Equal Pay Day and during Women' History Month to close the wage gap and help ensure equal pay for equal work. I'm proud that every House Democrat voted for H.R. 7, the Paycheck Fairness Act, sponsored by Rep. Rosa DeLauro (CT-03). With nearly 64 percent of mothers serving as the sole breadwinners for their families, this is not just a women's issue -- it is an issue that affects the majority of families throughout the country. I urge the Senate to take up and pass this bill without delay.

In addition, I joined my colleagues this week to introduce legislation that will protect people with pre-existing conditions, reverse the Trump Administration's health care sabotage, and take steps to lower health premiums and out-of-pocket costs for families. I was deeply disappointed that the Trump Administration filed a briefing on Monday night in support of a Texas court case against the Affordable Care Act. In doing so, the President is endorsing an effort to eliminate the law, taking health coverage away from millions of Americans and eliminating consumer protections for tens of millions more. Democrats will make every effort to defend the law and it's protections -- including those for people with pre-existing conditions -- and take steps to make health coverage more affordable for all Americans.

Finally, I was proud to relaunch my app "Whip Watch" as "Dome Watch" this week.
