Governor Calls Rosa Parks a "Champion for Fairness and Justice"

Sebelius orders flags to be lowered Wednesday

"Rosa Parks helped to change America and her contributions live on to this day," said Governor Kathleen Sebelius. "She proved that individuals can make a huge difference with courage and determination, and her actions inspired a demand for equality. She was a community leader and champion for fairness and justice, and will continue to serve as an inspiration and role model for future generations."

President George W. Bush today directed the flag of the United States be lowered on the day of her interment, Wednesday, November 2. Following United States of America and Kansas flag protocol, Governor Sebelius joins President Bush in honoring Rosa Parks and has directed all flags be flown at half-staff at state facilities on Wednesday.

Governor Sebelius said, "In addition to lowering flags at our state facilities, I encourage all Kansans to join in lowering the flag in honor of this American hero."
