Stauber Statement on the Crash of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Reservation System

Statement

Date: Jan. 30, 2019
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Pete Stauber (MN-08) made the following statement after the U.S. Forest Service's (USFS) new system to book entry into the Boundary Waters Canoe Area crashed this morning:

"I am incredibly concerned that today, on the very first day that outfitters and individuals could reserve permits for the 2019 Boundary Waters Canoe Area season, the USFS's new portal to handle such permitting crashed. We are already seeing severe consequences," said Stauber. "Businesses and constituents drove through forty-below temperatures to access reliable high-speed internet in the Twin Cities to reserve permits for their families and clients. They were instead disappointed to find this website failure. This website crash is detrimental to our state's tourism, which is why my office has called multiple agency officials to request they quickly rectify this situation. I have already received numerous calls on this problem, and I want everyone to know that I share their concern and encourage the USFS to fix the problem and ensure it doesn't happen again."
