Following the passage of the H.R. 8, the Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2019, Congressman Andy Levin made the following statement:
"As a father of four, I'm devastated every time I hear about another mass shooting. As a person of faith, I find it preposterous to use "thoughts and prayers' as an excuse for inaction. As Members of Congress, it's our job to do more than hope for an end to the gun violence epidemic. Today, we took common sense action that was long overdue.
"The Bipartisan Background Checks Act is the most effective way we can start saving lives and begin to end the gun violence epidemic in our country. Voting for this bill was one of the proudest moments I've had so far as a Member of Congress, and I promise to never relent in the fight to end gun violence in America."
On his first day as a Member of Congress, Congressman Andy Levin announced he would join the Gun Violence Prevention Task Force because putting an end to gun violence is one of his top legislative priorities.
