Rep. Cisneros Joins New Democrat Coalition Infrastructure Task Force

Statement

Date: March 14, 2019
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Infrastructure

Today, Congressman Gilbert R Cisneros, Jr. (CA-39) announced that he is a member of the New Democrat Coalition Infrastructure Task Force, and joined Co-Chairs Stacey Plaskett, Jason Crow, Elissa Slotkin, and Salud Carbajal to release their goals for the 116th Congress. The Infrastructure Task Force will meet with stakeholders and develop policy positions for the Coalition to advance in both the near term and long term.

"The highways of American commerce pass right through California's 39th District. Billions of goods travel along our highways every year, but that puts a growing strain on our infrastructure needs," said Rep. Cisneros. "I look forward to continuing to advocate for increased federal funding for our freeways, roadways, and public transit systems to ensure the safety of our commuters and families as well as stimulate our local economy. As part of the Infrastructure Task Force, I look forward to working with my colleagues to develop commonsense legislation on this issue."

Infrastructure Task Force Mission Statement for the 116th Congress:

The New Democrat Coalition Infrastructure Task Force will work to create jobs, spur economic growth, and modernize America's transportation, port, air, water, energy, and communications infrastructure. We must make sustainable and innovative public and private investments across the U.S. to repair and upgrade existing assets and build vital new projects. We will seek to support projects that help communities become more energy efficient, resilient and better prepared to deal with the impacts of climate change and environmental cleanup. Finally, we will seek to give communities ownership of local development, and encourage innovation, regulatory streamlining, and more comprehensive and multi-project long term planning.

Rep. Cisneros recently led a bipartisan letter in support of an LA Metro application for the State Route (SR) 57/60 Confluence Chokepoint Relief Project, which would improve mobility and safety through these heavily congested freeways. He also is a cosponsor of H.R. 880, the Safe Transportation Investment Act, which would eliminate tax subsidies for large oil companies and instead direct those revenues to the Surface Transportation Block Grant program.
