After voting to keep the government open, and in response to reports of the President's declaration of a national emergency, Rep. Josh Harder (CA-10) issued the following statement:
"Today both parties came together to keep the government open. It's not a perfect agreement, but it avoids another shutdown and contains smart and practical reforms we need to secure our border.
Reports that the President will declare a national emergency, however, are very disappointing. We need to have a serious conversation about fixing our immigration system, not govern crisis to crisis. I'm also very concerned with the White House's proposal to pay for this declaration by diverting funding away from Army Corps Civil Works projects that are critical for California's water infrastructure. The Central Valley absolutely needs this funding for crucial water projects, and I refuse to let partisan bickering hurt our region."
